La producción de manuscritos iluminados en la Edad Media y su vinculación a las monarquías hispanas

Abstract

The illustrated manuscripts, that appeared during the Middle Ages, are considered one of the most significant exponents of the artistic production of that period. An important part of the content of these codeces had a liturgical function as they were made for the religious institutions who elaborated them. However, in the Iberian Peninsula, a large amount of manuscripts were dedicated to the monarchy, either for the fact that the kings were the principals or promoters, or they were the recipients. These carefully refined works contain a highly elaborated decoration and represent a good example of the Iberian monarch's interest and taste were such works are concerned. So, since the Kings of the Kingdom of Asturias through Alfonso X, the Wise, up to the Catholic Kings, a new vision of the production of medieval manuscripts could be appreciated.
