Abstract

In this article we explore the possibilities of using zooarchaeological evidence identified only at an anatomic level to make interpretations about its composition and distribution within domestic contexts in Historical Archaeology. With this aim we build a specific reference frame for Hispanic foodways between the 16th and the beginning of the 19th centuries that does not require a taxonomic level of identification and which we consider especially useful for highly fragmented samples. We illustrate the scope of such a model by analyzing two domestic contexts of the Spanish colony of Floridablanca, San Julián, Santa Cruz, Argentina (1780-1784).
