An experimental approach to the making of coconut fiber ropes in the CHamoru Prehistory (Mariana Islands, Oceania)
Keywords:
Rope, CHamoru, Experimental Archaeology, OceaniaAbstract
This paper has carried out an experimental approach about rope making in the CHamoru culture. Due the materials to which this ancient society had access, coconut fibers could have been one of the main resources in the production of ropes. Practical analysis has shown how it could be possible to generate these elements from one of the most abundant raw materials on the islands, coconuts, which is also easy to process and manufacture.
