Abstract
When people hear about the borders of poverty, they imagine spatial lines that divide the world between countries in poverty and countries in wealth: they are the walls that make immigration difficult. There are other walls that are more imperceptible, but not less important. People in severe poverty around the world cannot see the future because the wall of their bleak present stands in the way. On the other hand, compassion locks us in a wall that prevents us from accessing the humanity of people living in poverty. Our nationalism, moreover, puts up a wall that blocks the way to the construction of global justice. Finally, the boundaries of the market enclose journalism that deals with poverty within walls of injustice. As we can see, although it may seem paradoxical, we have the most borders and walls.
