Abstract

When Américo Castro published España en su hitoria: judíos, moros y cristianos in 1948, he did so after verifying that the generals headed by Sanjurjo, Mola and Franco did not rise up against the Republic by making excuses for a political disagreement, but rather on the contrary nature of the Republic to the millennial essence of the nation.

The novelty of Castro's approach to the ideological context that preceded the Civil War lies in emphasizing, in line with the philosophical position that Rorty would develop, the close link between the narrative of the past from which the various currents of Spanish traditionalism were fed through throughout the 19th century and the political action they encouraged against the Republic.
