Hispanophone-Maghrebi Poetry materiality: an introduction

Hispanophone-Maghrebi literature, of postcolonial origin, is mostly composed of poetry and narrative works, but, undoubtedly, critics have traditionally leaned more towards the study of the latter genre. I order to counteract this critical dynamic and examine further this poetic materiality still unexplored, I developed the CoPoHiM (Corpus de Poesía Hispanomagrebí) initiative. In its first phase (2024-2025), data on 90 books of poems written by authors of Maghreb origin, whether in exile or in the diaspora, was compiled. The analysis of the data from these collections of poems, carried out with Nodegoat, yields interesting results both in terms of their time and place of publication and in terms of authorial factors such as gender.

L’elisir d’amore: Wine as Generic-Structural Element of the Picaresque (II)

This paper studies the presence of wine in Spanish picaresque literature and attempts to analyze its importance both in the particular configuration of each novel and in the development of the literary genre. This analysis is followed by some theoretical reflections on the problem of delimiting the picaresque genre.

A partire dalle cronache delle Indie, l'autrice analizza il concetto di bellezza con riguardo soprattutto all'igiene personale degli indigeni del Mesoamerica. La cura del corpo nei suoi vari aspetti (barba, profumo, cosmetici per il viso, etc.) non si limita ad uno scopo puramente estetico, ma nasconde significati molto più profondi legati all'identità e al riconoscimento dell'individuo nella gerarchia sociale. I testi analizzati permettono di vedere come la visione cosmogonica delle popolazioni precolombiane sia strettamente connessa alle cure estetiche del corpo.

The Poetics of Death in Horacio Quiroga’s Criollo Tales

This article analyses a number of Quiroga’s short stories where death is caused by the power of nature (in the region of Misiones) and by the weakness of the men who live in it. It reveals in those stories a poetics of death that Quiroga deploys in order to develop this subject matter. Accordingly, this article posits the thesis that some of Quiroga’s short stories are literature dramatising the struggle of men against nature in their efforts to bring civilisation to the inland wilderness of the South-American continent.
