Abstract

Since 2005, cyclical political crises in Lebanon threaten the stability of the region. The Spanish diplomacy has played an important role in the country since then. Italian Foreign Minister, Massimo D’Alema, France’s Bernard Kouchner and the Spanish Miguel Angel Moratinos led mediation efforts between the Lebanese government and opposition. Although the efforts didn’t solve the crisis, the Spanish diplomacy appears to be a unique negotiator in the region thanks its good relationship with Syria. It is essential to end tensions in Arab countries to face a peace process in the Middle East. The role of Spain is fundamental to unite positions among the political players, especially the Syrian regime.
