Abstract

The early identification in the beginning of the new century, of a group of countries as emerging powers, has rekindled interest around the distribution of political and economic power in the world. Indeed, states such as Brazil, India and South Africa began to be taken into account, especially by transnational economic and financial sectors, as by diplomats and academics. This article discusses the debate generated by this new distribution of world power that seems to forget to take into account indicators of socio-economic issues of their respective populations.
