Abstract

Iran’s nuclear program began in the 1950s under the Shah. It was abandoned after the 1979 Revolution, which brought to power Khomeini. In 1989, a new effort began, raising suspicions of the international community. Iran insisted that it was fulfilling to its obligations under the Non-Proliferation Treaty, but in 2002 the existence of a clandestine program came to be known. The aim of this paper is to analyze the geopolitical context and possible initiatives (diplomatic and military) that can be brought before the deepening of the Iranian nuclear program in recent years.
