Abstract
Antonio Gramsci is definitely one of the most influential political theorists of the xxth century. His understanding of democracy is mediated by the complexity of his political thinking and the philosophical framework within which he operates. Therefore, it is necessary to previously define certain concepts to which the Italian gave a special centrality within his thought, because only through them can be comprehended how he explains democracy, why, and how it is the democracy he defended as a political leader.
