A pilot scheme has been carried out with university students who were repeating their first year. The scheme consisted on a crash course and the method was based on lectures, small groups seminars, individual tutorials and continuous assessment through weekly tests. The students' results were bette than the ones obtained on a regular basis. The final inquiry clarifies some of the reasons for that improvement.
