Abstract

This paper starts with a brief description of the historical vicissitudes which comprehen-sive education has going trough in the UK, which is where this form of organization of teaching was originated. In line with this description, the pros and cons of comprehensive education are pointed out, to go on to discuss to what extent the problems for which it was designed have been solved. In a second part, it is explained how the comprehensive school has been implemented in our country, trying to analyze whether this way of implementation has been beneficial for teaching. In this context, some of the ills of our education system in relation to the baccalaureate are scrutinized.
