Students' perceptions of collaborative small group work. A study in the field of physics and chemistry
Keywords:
Student thought processes, Peer collaboration, Small-group workAbstract
Throughout this survey we have investigated the perceptions of secondary school pupils, aged 15-16, about several aspects of their work in collaborative small groups. The research has been carried out in the field of Physics and Chemistry. From the analysis of the students' answers to a lengthy questionnaire we can draw the conclusion that they have perfectly taken in both key elements of cooperation: to share ideas and help each other. We have also compared girls' and boys' opinions, as well as the differences between high and low achievers. Finally we have considered the posibility that student thought processes act as mediator in the relationship between teaching and learning.
