Abstract

Classical Languages have been the centre of the intelectual formation for many centuries not only for Humanists but also for Scientists. In Spain, the instruction of Humanities suffered a rentless reduction in Secondary Education during the 1970 and 1990 reforms as well as in the new educational programmes of the university. This reduction tood place due to the push of the "new humanities" and due to the new pedagogy that proposes a very elementary culture and a specialitation which regards "practical" knowledge as the only useful instruction for students.
However, nowadays a support body has started in the different levels of society, that claims a much more important role in the instruction of Humanities.. The Spanish Society of Classical Studies has proposed specific measures to reinforce the study of Classical Culture in Secondary Education. Furthermore, it has been planned to reinforce the role of Humanities at university level.
