Abstract
Among the works of Chinese authors who write about Spain, Linda’s Travel Notes of Spain is one of the most influential books and has aroused the interest of many Chinese intellectuals. Instead of being a mere travel story, this essay covers the history of Spain, with special attention to the Civil War and the democratic transition, providing a deep reflection on human nature and the attitudes of tolerance and intransigence at crucial moments. The objective of this work is to interpret some lessons and experiences that Linda has extracted from the contemporary history of Spain and investigate their hypothetical applicability in China through a comparative analysis of the similarities and disparities between the two societies, focused on the political systems and some sociocultural factors.
