Abstract
The present work analyses the history of the construction of the Encarnacion market-square in Seville, since its configuration as urban space in Joseph Bonaparte's times until the end of the 19th century. Thus, it studies both the provisional wooden market -probably designed by Jose Echamorro- and the definitive one, made of cement and bricks according to the project designed by academic architect Melchor Cano. It also values the different plans filed in Seville Municipal Archives -some of them still remain unpublished- and makes known and studies three valuable plans from the National Historical Archives which graphically document the intervention plan prepared by Cayetano Vélez.
