Abstract
People live with metaphors and the worlds they make possible. Some such metaphors describe human rights and democracy, such as those of the girl who knew how to write (fragility), the mist that invaded the world (narration) and the farmer who told his sons of buried treasure (education). These three invite us to consider that in order to protect the dignity of humanity in its fragility, we must save the world from the inhuman metaphor of The Markets by educating ourselves to be, instead of producers and consumers, aware of our ignorance of the extent of the always-open human enigma of life. Then perhaps, exploring as communities of discoverers and narrators, we can continue our story, contingent and provisional, unlocked by people and shared among people.
