Abstract
Roberto Minervini’s film The other side (Louisiana) enters a cinematographic territory that navigates between the explicit documentary and the representational narrative, forming an intimate portrait of a part of the North American Deep South. In our analysis of the film, supported in large part by multiple interviews with the director and commentators of his film, certain notions emerge that we consider of great philosophical interest: the ethical conflict inherent in the use of explicit/abyect images, the importance of the type of editing carried out with them and the notion, proposed by us, of performative parrhesia, inserted in the problematic of truth or objectivity in cinema.
