Abstract
During the last decades we have been present at the unstoppable advance of the genetics, which discoveries have provoked the interest of philosophers of biology. Nevertheless, the question “what is a gene?” continues without a definitive answer and doesn't exist a clear and univocal positioning on the part of scientists. Sometimes the gene has been thought as autonomous agent, the leader of evolution and organismic development, but the current genomic science draws a totally different scene and objects some of the scientific established metaphors.
