SOCIOTECHNICAL IMAGINARIES IN EDUCATION: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

This article analyzes the configuration of sociotechnical imaginaries surrounding Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital transformation in global education policy. Through a critical perspective, the concept of sociotechnical imaginaries is redefined, turning it into a valuable analytical tool for studying the digital privatization of education within the context of contemporary capitalism. Adopting a materialist approach, discourses on AI and digital transformation within the new sociotechnical imaginaries in education are analyzed among some of the main political actors in global education policy. The analysis of sociotechnical imaginaries primarily considers the dialectical relationship between power and ideology present in shaping the discourses central to the design and projection of the future of global education policy. The results allow for conceptualizing three distinctive categories of sociotechnical imaginaries: global, national, and mercantilist. The conclusions provide valuable insights for critical analyses aimed at examining the technoscientific advances in AI and digital transformation within contemporary capitalism.
