The purpose of this research project is to study the development of children and adolescent's knowledge about the occupational world, focusing in the developing ideas on work as a central element of social organization, i.e., in relation to different aspects such as differeorial retribution, educational qualifications, social status, ocupational prestige, etc.
In this paper we present some results obtained in a set of pilot studies in which children from 6 to 14 years-old were individually interviewed around questions concerning these topics. These first results support the idea that children adopt and reproduce social values and stereotypes lied to occupational prestige long before understanding the elements implied in this aspcct of social organization.
