Round trips of Enlightened science and its influence on American colonial education

Abstract

This article looks closely at the historic phenomenon of Spanish science during the Enlightment period and the process of spreading that science to the colonies in America and its influence in those territories as well as the construction of a new educational, cultural and social ideology which would lead to the independence process of American nations.
The Enlightment ideals outlined within the Borbon court did not fulfill expected regeneration and modernization but they laid the educational foundations for Creole science to become aware of its national identify. It also set the guidelines for the aforementioned science to propose its peripheral ideas as an alternative to the colonial centralization of knowledge.
