Review of Instructional Programs developed to teach understanding of main ideas

This paper presents a board theoretical review about the training programs developed (based on text processing model by van Dijk and Kintsch, 1983) to improve text main idea comprehension. This kind of review is neccessary because althoug most of these programs share some similarities (vg., the same theoretical frame), they differ in some other factors that make difficult to compare them. This problem is aggravated in the last years due to the fact the big proliferation of this kind of programs in our country and abroad.
Then, the objective of this paper is not only to describe the programs done, but also to analyze the instruction characteristics on these programs are based, the strategies proposed in the different training programs, their differential efficacy, their implications for learning, the instruction context, and soon. Thus, the main goal is to clarify in some extent the reasons of the training programs differential efficacy if they are apparently the same.
